D99 Marching Band Wins CJ Shoemaker Award

On Tuesday, August 3, 2010 Bill Miller (DGN) and Glenn Williams (DGS) attended the Downers Grove City Council meeting to accept a special award on behalf of the students and staff members from both campuses.

Members of the District 99 Marching Band earned the CJ Shoemaker Award from Downers Grove Major Ron Sandack for their performance in the 2010 Downers Grove Independence Day Parade on July 4, 2010. Students from North and South combine annually for this community performance.

Congratulations to the student musicians from both campuses on this recognition for an outstanding performance!

Rain Can't Dampen Spirit of Independence

Congratulations and thank you to the members of the District 99 Summer Marching Band for two great performances in community parades today. Members of the DGN Trojan Marching Band and the DGS Marching Mustangs joined forces for the Darien and Downers Grove Independence Day Parades. Great work everyone!

miniBand Marches with Curious George!

The Trojan miniBand was THRILLED to participate in the Downers Grove Friends of the Library Storybook Parade. The weather forced the parade into the 1st and 2nd floors of the library, but everyone seemed to have a great time. Congratulations to all the young marchers that joined the miniBand in their GREAT costumes. And thanks to Curious George for this photo op!

FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of the North High School Fine Arts Department faculty is to offer students a well-rounded curricular experience that includes exposure to genres of music, theatre, and visual art in a wide variety of creative settings. Program goals that serve as tenets for the North High School Fine Arts Department faculty are: To provide a productive and cooperative learning environment in which students of various backgrounds and ability levels may learn to achieve outstanding artistic results; To intentionally study music, theatre and visual art from cultures and communities that have been historically under-represented; To engage students in a journey toward artistic and personal success at the highest level; To develop in young people the appreciation, discrimination, analysis, and participation skills necessary to become lifelong consumers of the arts.
