DGN Winter Guard Takes 4th at Naperville North

Congratulations to the DGN Winter Guard team on their 4th place finish at their first competition of the season at Naperville North!  Great start to the competitive season.  Go Trojans!

DGN All State Musicians Wrap Up Week at Illinois Music Education Conference

Sixteen student musicians from Downers Grove North High School earned All-State honors through the Illinois Music Education Association.  Students were selected to the All-State Bands, All-State Choirs, All-State Orchestras, and recognized in the All-State Music Composition Contest. All-State musicians traveled to Peoria, IL, from January 25-28, 2017 and participated in the Illinois Music Education Conference.

“We are truly thrilled for these students and their families,” said Brayer Teague, Fine Arts Department Chair. “Many people helped these students achieve this success, beginning with their very first elementary school music teachers and extending to their private-lessons teachers today.  North High is very proud to have these incredible musicians representing District 99 at the All-State level, and we were excited they had the opportunity to perform alongside the very best musicians in the State of Illinois.”

2017 DGN Choral Festival

DGN Artists Garner 92 Awards at 2017 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards @Dist_99

The Fine Arts Department at Downers Grove North High School is proud to announce the results of the judging from the 2017 Scholastic Art Awards held at Downers Grove North High School and hosted by the Community High School District 99 Fine Arts Departments.  1,130 student artists from 40 area schools submitted 2,619 works of art for adjudication. North High artists won 92 awards, including 28 Gold Key Awards, 30 Silver Key Awards, and 33 Honorable Mention Awards.

 “We are very excited to host the regional exhibition at North High,” said Brayer Teague, Fine Arts Department Chairman. “This show is always an amazing display of student creativity and a testament to the wonderful art teaching that is happening in District 99.”  According to Teague, the art teachers from both North and South High School play an important role in putting the exhibition together.  “Our District 99 art teachers are the engine behind this regional affiliate of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.  Their dedication and tireless commitment enables student artists from all over the suburban region to have their work evaluated by professional artists.”

Community High School District 99 will host the Scholastic Art Show Regional Exhibition from February 5-10, at the North High School campus Main Street Lobby (4436 Main Street, Downers Grove, IL 60515).  The public is cordially invited to attend the Exhibition Opening and Artists Reception on Sunday, February 5, from 1:00 – 4:00 pm.

DGN Jazzers Swing Home With Awards from Purdue University Jazz Festival @Dist_99

Congratulations to the student musicians of the North High School Jazz Program for an outstanding showing at the 2017 Purdue Jazz Festival.   Three jazz ensembles performed and competed with more than 100 high school ensembles from five states across the Midwest.  In addition to receiving a score from the panel of adjudicators in each room, each group received real time formative feedback from each judge in an audio recording.  This feedback is essential to the continuing growth of both individual students and the musicianship of each ensemble.  

The DGN Jazz Combo earned the title of "Honor Band" for their division at the festival, earning the highest score of all 17 ensembles in the Combo Room.  

Each of the three ensembles from DGN received a Division I rating from the panel of judges.  This is the highest possible rating on the scoring rubric.  In addition to the outstanding ensemble performances, 12 Outstanding Soloist Awards were given by the panel of judges to DGN students for displaying outstanding musicianship.
