North High's Fall Musical - Guys and Dolls!

Winner of the Tony Award for Best Musical of 1951, this is the story of the hip, wise, and funny characters of a fast-paced, hand-to-mouth, rough and tumble New York City. Based on the short stories of Damon Runyon, Frank Loesser's musical version we see tough but honorable gamblers meet their match in the iron-willed and faith-filled Save-A-Soul Mission.  The clash is hilarious, romantic, and most assuredly exciting.

Auditions take place September 5th & 6th.  All interested should go to the North High Theatre page on Blackboard or the Choir Blogspot for more information and audition materials.  There is even a YouTube video called "DGN Guys & Dolls Dance Audition" to help you with the brief dance audition, though no previous dance experience is needed. A free audition clinic will take place during the Summer Theatre Workshop on Tuesday,  August 21st.  The team needs tons of guys and lots of dolls. We hope to see you all at the auditions.

Thank You D99 Marching Band!

The faculty and administration of North and South High Schools extend deep thanks and appreciation to the 200 students of the District 99 Marching Band for their tremendous efforts in two community parades today. Students endured extended temperatures (Heat Index 104) as they performed musically and marched with precision.

A special thanks is also extended to the parent volunteers of the Mustang Band Boosters and the DGN Music Boosters for providing hundreds of iced water bottles, as well as support along the parade routes to ensure students were safe and all needs attended to.

Congratulations to all for great performances today and for representing District 99, and our communities, in such a positive manner!

Band Leaders Get Jump Start On 2012-13

Many thanks to the dedicated members of the 2012-13 DGN Marching Band Leadership Team who spent the first day of "summer vacation" preparing for NEXT year.

North High welcomed internationally renown music educator and student leadership trainer Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser to campus. "Dr. Tim" made a significant impact on our students today, challenging them to lead by example and make a difference in the lives of others through "servant leadership." Thank you Dr. Tim!

Congratulations to the North High Chamber Choir on a wonderful performance this evening at the Chamber Choir Concert, and a wonderful year of music-making! 

Chamber Choir Concert Tonight!

The DGN Chamber Choir rehearsed this morning for the annual end-of-year Chamber Choir Concert.  The free concert will be held this evening, Wednesday, May 30, at 7 pm in the Clarence Johnson Auditorium. 

Combos Wrap Up Great Year of Jazz With Sonic Show & Tell

Today, at 6:15 AM, the four DGN Jazz Combos from this year (Bird, Cannonball, Dizzy and Miles) met to share music with one another and celebrate a year of tremendous musical growth.

Congratulations and thanks to the twenty-three jazz musicians who regularly came EXTRA early (6:15 am) this year to participate in our jazz combo program.  Well done Trojan musicians!

District 99 Spring Orchestra Concert a Stunning Success!

The District 99 Orchestra performed their 2012 Spring Concert tonight in the Clarence Johnson Auditorium at North High School in Downers Grove.  The Concert Orchestra performed challenging repertoire with passion and precision, demonstrating significant improvement from the start of the year. The Symphonic Orchestra performed 5 concerti with maturity and elegance, negotiating the musical nuances inherent in the pieces with palpable prowess.  Special congratulations to the five senior soloists that performed  tonight, marking a capstone experience in their collective musical journeys' in the District 99 Orchestra.  The evening concluded with a salute to the Class of 2012 while the Combined Orchestras and alumni at the concert played The Final Countdown.  Great job tonight D99 Orchestra - a stunning conclusion to a fabulous year!

District 99 Orchestra Concert Tomorrow Night!

The combined Fine Arts Departments of North and South High are pleased to invite you to the final District 99 Orchestra concert of the school year tomorrow evening, May 23, at 7:00 p.m. in the Clarence Johnson Auditorium of North High.  The District 99 Symphonic Orchestra and Concert Orchestra will be performing.  Also featured will be senior soloists Aaron Collins (violin), Lauren Kovanko (viola), Meghan Lyda (cello), Lisa Salazar (viola), and Hannah Young (harp).  We hope you will join us for a wonderful evenings of music, and support our North and South High musicians.

Jazz In The Park Tomorrow Night!

The North High Fine Arts Department invites you to attend the annual Jazz in The Park concert tomorrow evening, May 22, at Fishel Park in Downers Grove.  This performance is the first public event in the new Veteran’s Memorial Band Shell in Fishel Park.  The North High Chamber Choir will perform the National Anthem at a dedication ceremony at 6:00 p.m.  Following the dedication, the jazz begins at 6:30!  Six jazz ensembles from both North and South High will be performing.  The event will conclude around 8:45 p.m.  So, bring your favorite picnic food and gear, set up a lawn chair or blanket, and enjoy the inaugural performance at the brand new Veteran’s Memorial Band Shell at Fishel Park.
