Band Leaders Arrive For Leadership Training

The 2019-20 DGN Trojan Marching Band Drum Majors and Section Captains spent the day exploring leadership strategies, setting goals, and preparing for next week's Band Camp. The energy and enthusiasm for the upcoming season is unmistakable! 

Summer Theatre Workshop: One more day to register!

DGN's annual Summer Theatre Workshop will be held on Tuesday, August 13, from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM in North High's Clarence Johnson Auditorium. We are excited to welcome back all of our outstanding theatre students, and to welcome new students interested in learning more about our theatre programs!

At the workshop we will eat snacks, play games, tour the space, get reacquainted with old friends, make new friends, and find out the titles of our productions this season! Students will also receive a 2019-20 DGN Theatre Tee Shirt.

Students must pre-register prior to attend, and the deadline is Tuesday, July 30. The cost of the T-shirt is included in the $12 registration fee.

DGN Bands To Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Moon Landing

"50 years ago today, people around the globe gathered at their radios & televisions to join two humans as they landed on the Moon for the first time. As they took one small step, a giant leap was accomplished." (@NASA)

This fall the DGN Trojan Marching Band will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing, with an eye toward future space travel, in their show entitled, "... AND BEYOND!"

July 4th Homecoming Surprise!

There was a lot to celebrate on July 4th, including a surprise homecoming that reunited DGN Band flutist Raegan Novak with her brother and United States Marine, Austin Novak. Lance corporal Novak, who is stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, arrived just prior to the parade to surprise Raegan.

District 99 Marching Band Prepares for Independence Day Parade

Members of the DGN and DGS Bands hit the pause-button on their summer vacation tonight as they returned to campus and prepared for the Downers Grove Independence Day Parade (July 4th - 1:00 PM). Student musicians from North and South High School annually combine forces to form the "District 99 Marching Band" for this community event!

DGN Musicians Tour Sweden, Finland, Estonia and Russia with CYSO

Five current and alumni musicians of the DGN Fine Arts Department are on tour this week with the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. The ensemble has recently performed in Stockholm, Sweden and Helsinki, Finland. Upcoming concerts will be held later this week in Tallinn, Estancia as well as St. Petersburg, Russia.

Congratulations to current students Emma Krause (Flute), Catherine Ramsey (Harp), and Miles Teague (Horn), as well as alumni Lucie Boyd (Viola) and Kevin Gupana (CYSO Operations Staff).

Three DGN Thespians Tapped with All State Honors

Congratulations to Renee Boone (Cast), Travon Moore (Cast), and Matthew Spencer (Crew) for their recent selection to produce and perform in the Illinois High School Theatre Festival's 2020 All-State Production: Aida.

Produced by the Illinois Theatre Association, the Illinois High School Theatre Festival (IHSTF) is the largest and oldest non-competitive high school theatre festival in the nation. The three-day Festival takes place every year in early January, and switches locations between the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Illinois State University. Over 4,000 students, teachers, university representatives, exhibitors, and volunteers come together to put on over 25 different high school productions and over 150 workshops.

Other highlights include college/university auditions for high school seniors, professional development for teachers and the All-State Production, featuring student cast, crew, and orchestra members from across the state.
