The 2016 DGN Marching Band Student Leadership Team spent the day at the Lincoln Marsh High Ropes and Teams Course. It's clear that this group of students will be effective and dedicated leaders!

DGN Visual Artist Honored at National Scholastic Awards / Carnegie Hall #99Learns #WeAreDGN @Dist_99

The most advanced visual artists and writers from around the nation were celebrated at Carnegie Hall this past June.  Aubrey Saha, earning a National Gold Medal, traveled to New York to receive her national medal.  In addition to Saha's accomplishment, DGN students Jessica Novotny, Olivia Wojciak and Angela Wong each earned National Silver Medals this year.

Since 1923, the Scholastic Art and Writing Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious award and recognition program for creative teens. This year the Scholastic Awards received 320,000  submissions for the 2016 program year. Receiving a National Medal from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards places these student artists within the top 1% of all submissions from a national pool of art work.

Studio Recording for Upcoming DGN Fine Arts Video #WeAreDGN #99Learns @CHMusicAcademy

Ellie B. and Ryan K. sounded fabulous in studio this week as the DGN Fine Arts Department collaborated with Clarendon Hills Music Academy (CHMusicAcademy.com) to produce the soundtrack for the @dgnfinearts upcoming 2016-17 video.

Be Inspired: Cavaliers On DGN Campus Saturday! #99Learns

One of the world's most famous and prestigious music ensembles, The Cavalier's Drum and Bugle Corps, will be in residence at North High School this Saturday, July 2.  The corps will be in town preparing for the "Cavalcade of Brass" drum and bugle corps show to be held at Benedictine University in Lisle, IL this coming Saturday night.  Tickets for the show may be purchased here.

The Cavaliers will be rehearsing on the North High campus Saturday late morning, and afternoon. Precise rehearsal schedules have not yet been announced, but drum and bugle corps typically focus on small group practice in the mornings (drum line, brass line, color guard), and then combine for full ensemble work in the afternoon following a lunch break.

The rehearsals of the corps are open to students from our District 99 band programs, as well as community members at large, to observe.  There is a lot to learn from watching a precision music ensemble focus on collective group goals in their quest for artistic excellence.  We strongly encourage all D99 music lovers to make time on Saturday to be inspired through observation and listening.

You are cordially invited to attend the District 99 Honors Band and Jazz Ensemble's Bon Voyage Concert, to be held this evening (Saturday, June 11) at 6:00 PM in the Clarence Johnson Auditorium of Downers Grove North High School.

The D99 Honors Band students are ready for their departure next week, and looking forward to sharing a preview of their European concert set with local audiences tonight.

The DGN Fine Arts Department extends a heartfelt congratulations and bids a fond farewell to the North High School Class of 2016.  Specifically, we acknowledge the artists in sight and in sound who set high standards throughout their academic journey and leave behind a legacy of high achievement and artistic excellence.
