DGN Musicians Honor Decorated War Hero

Sgt. James W. Robinson Jr.
After 53 years, posthumous Medal of Honor recipient U.S. Army Sgt. James W. Robinson Jr. was honored at a ceremony marking the renaming of the Westmont Post Office in his name. Robinson, a native son of Westmont, perished in battle in Vietnam and was laid to rest in 1966 at the Clarendon Hills Cemetery. The Medal of Honor is the United States of America's highest and most prestigious personal military decoration that may be awarded to recognize U.S. military service members who have distinguished themselves by acts of valor. He was the grandson of William Robinson, a former five-term mayor of Westmont, according to a news release.

Thank you to DGN musicians Gwen Casten, Derek Ferraro, and Tressa Rapach, who performed the National Anthem to open today's naming ceremony.
