ACDA Boys Honor Choir

Congratulations to Ian Cates, Robbie Gartlan, Keaton Hellman, Liam Rowley, Patrick Troyan & Martin Whitmore, who were selected to participate with the ACDA 8-10 Grade Boys Honor Choir this weekend at the IL-ACDA Fall Conference.  These students had the opportunity to rehearse with well-known and respected conductor Randy Swiggum, and had the chance to perform a concert for the IL-ACDA membership and community this afternoon.  Congratulations to these young men on a wonderful day of music-making!

Band O Rama 2012

Student Musicians Earn 56 All-District Honors


Student musicians from Downers Grove North High School earned an impressive fifty-six placements, by competitive audition, to the 2012 Illinois Music Educators Association District Band, Choir, Orchestra and Jazz Band.  Auditions were held on Tuesday, October 9, at Carl Sandburg High School.  The top placing scores were selected for participation in the District Music Festivals, to be held during the month of November. 

“Selection to the IMEA All-District ensembles is a big honor for a high school musician,” said Brayer Teague, Fine Arts Department Chairperson.  “This is the second-highest number of all-district placements in the history of our school, and we are very proud of these students for their hard work. Our faculty is excited for these students who will now have the opportunity to collaborate with the most outstanding musicians in our region.”

Band O Rama Thursday Night!

The Fine Arts Department is pleased to invite you to join us again for this year’s annual BAND-O-RAMA Concert tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. in the North High Purple Gym.  This free concert will feature your ‘Trojan’ Marching Band including the Color Guard, together with the Athenas and Cheerleaders, as they perform the spirited sounds of this year’s marching band season.  Don't miss this energetic and entertaining evening of music!

D58 and D99 Orchestras Halloween SPOOKFEST!


Congratulations to the nearly 200 string players from Downers Grove District 58 and 99 and their conductors Colleen Eakley, Mackenzie Martin and Jennifer Mullen for the collaborative effort that was "Halloween Spookfest."  The seasonal theme, decorations, and repertoire combined to make an evening that was exceptional for performers and patrons alike.  The success of string education in D58 and D99 was evident tonight through the collaboration of students and teachers and the depth and breadth of the literature performed.

D99 Orchestra Prepares for Spookfest


The District 99 Orchestra is preparing today for "Spookfest," a seasonally themed concert which takes place on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the auditorium at South High School in Downers Grove.

In addition to performing Mussorgsky's A Night on Bald Mountain, the D99 Orchestras will also perform additional seasonally frightening repertoire.  Special guests on this concert will be students from the orchestra at both Herrick Middle School and O'Neill Middle School in District 58.  Our sender school guests from District 58 will join the D99 orchestra in several side by side selections during the concert.  

Thanks in advance for choosing to attend this event - the combination of the theme and the performed repertoire will ensure this concert will be a crowd pleaser!

Marching Band Regular Season Finale

Hundreds of middle school and junior high musicians joined the Trojan Marching Band for their final home performance of the regular season. Congratulations and thanks are extended to Herrick, Jefferson, and Westview Hills Bands for their great work tonight.








Special Kudos are also extended to the Trojan Marching Band Class of 2013. Over 140 years of combined service to DGN! Thank you seniors!!

Fall Choir Concert a Sonic Success!

Congratulations to the members of the DGN Choirs on an outstanding Fall Choir Concert!  Each ensemble performed with energy and artistry.  If the sounds resonating in the Clarence Johnson Auditorium this evening were any indication, our North High vocalists (and their audiences) are in for a tremendous year.  Kudos to all for a wonderful first concert of the 2012-13 academic year!

D99 Orchestra "Spooktacular" Festival


Over 200 student string musicians participated in the inaugural District 99/District 58 string festival, which included students from South High School, North High School, Herrick Middle School and O'Neill Middle School.  The festival is in preparation for the D99 "Spooktacular" Concert which will take place on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 7:00 PM in the auditorium at South High School in Downers Grove.

During the festival that occured today,  student string musicians from Herrick and O'Neill came to DGS and participated in sectionals, a large group rehearsal, and a pizza dinner.  "We are thrilled to get this first festival off the ground with both sender school orchestras." said District 99 Orchestra director Jennifer Mullen.  "We are pleased with the results from today, and we are excited for the concert coming up on October 16th."
