Thirty-one District 99 Musicians Achieve 2010 "All-State" Recognition

Fourteen student musicians from Downers Grove North High School were selected by competitive audition to the 2010-2011 Illinois Music Educator’s Association All-State Band, Choir, Orchestra, Jazz Band and Secondary General Music Composition Contest. Performance auditions were held last October at Hinsdale Central High School; musical compositions were evaluated by professional musicians and composers from across the Midwest.

“We are really thrilled for these students and their families,” said Brayer Teague, Fine Arts Department Chair at North High.  “Many people helped these students achieve this success, beginning with their very first elementary school music teachers and extending to their private-lessons teachers today.  North High is very proud to have these incredible musicians representing District 99 at the All-State level, and we are equally pleased for our friends at South High who also had a tremendous number of students selected for All-State this year.”

In total, thirty-one student musicians from District 99 were selected for this prestigious performance honor.

The All-State Band, Choir, Orchestra and Jazz Band will convene for a series of rehearsals in Peoria, IL, January 26-29, 2011.  Their concerts will be held at the Peoria Civic Center on the evening of January 28, and the afternoon of January 29, 2011.

Students Gear Up for DGN's Holiday Mosaic!

Student artists and musicians at Downers Grove North are gearing up for the annual Holiday Mosaic.

The Holiday Mosaic Concert will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2010 in the Clarence Johnson Auditorium of North High School.  To accommodate the expected capacity audiences, there will be two performances for community members to choose from: 5:30 and 8:00 pm.  Each concert will feature the band, choir and District 99 orchestra, as well as a variety of chamber music ensembles.  The concerts, which are presented in a continuous format, will last approximately one hour.

The Opening Reception of the Holiday Mosaic Art Show will be at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 in the North High Main Street Lobby.  Community members are encouraged to view student visual art at this time, and throughout the week.

Admission to both events is free, and the public is cordialy invited to attend.

This is the 14th annual 'Holiday Mosaic' at North High, which annually features over 500 student musicians and visual artists presenting works for an anticipated audience of just over 2,000 community members.

As always, the evening will conclude with a performance of Handel's Hallelujah!, a tradition in the community of Downers Grove since 1929.  But this year, students and audience members will be provided with a special holiday sonic treat - guest artist Sam Stryke. Styke last performed in District 99 in December of 2008. This year audience members will get to hear a taste of Stryke's newest release titled Joy to the World: A Symphony Pops Christmas. Stryke will perform with the District 99 Orchestra, and, with the District 99 Orchestra and Combined North High Choirs.

For more information about this performance, or about DGN Fine Arts, contact Brayer Teague at: bteague@csd99.org.
